Our class is not oniy for juinior, but
for foreign students , expats, tourists from abroad ,
& non -Japanease
regardless of gender, age, nationality.
(We might ask you to show your residence card, or passport )
Usually held on 2nd & 4th Sunday, but
sometimes held on Saturday or 5th Sunday
when the whole building reserved by other events.
You can join us only one coin (500yen*)
*500yen is a concession entrance fee for only participants from abroad &
non -Japanease regardless of gender, age, nationality,
*Concessionary fare is not for Japanese people, see Japanese website.
＊Only cash accepted on the day.

How to make a resevation
Beginners are welcome!
Only you can do is …
１．Choose just one day above convenient for you .
２．Please E-mail to us with your name, gender, age,and your level as player.
We're open to beginners, please feel free to contact us！
3. Then just only mail to us ! after a few days, we'll reply your mail.
We're glad if you also tell us your nationality, your level of Shogi ( or Chess ) ,and what you would like to do with us, if possible.
We are sorry in case of fully booked on your prefered date, we may offer you another days.

Japanese Chess, "Shogi" is easy to learn especially for chess players.
We have shogi pieces printed by not only general Chinese characters
but chess-like pieces.
You can also play chess in our class, until you get used to an atmosphere of our class.
Let's exeperience traditional Japanese culture lasts over thousand years !
Shogi is not only one of a brain games but the typical Japanese traditional culture that lasts for over thousand years !
With unique rule as reuse of captured opponent pieces (the complete deference between other games like Chess), you can enjoy exiciting end game !
Introduction
"Shogi" （将棋 しょうぎ） is a two-player strategy board game similar to chess and is one of the most popular ones in Japan.
We welcome anyone who knows how to move Shogi pieces, from kindergarten childeren to seniors, regardless of age, gender, or nationality！

As a general rule, our class is held
on 2nd & 4th Sunday* morning,
09:30 to 11:30
＊sometimes held on previous Suturday , or cancelled when the entire hall is reserved for private use on Sunday.
We recommend cheking temporary closure days on this homepage.

non-Japanease: 500yen*
Age20 and over :1000yen
Student: 800yen *
Female: 800 yen
65 or over: 800 yen*
Elementary & younger : 600 yen*
Member : 500yen*

Let's keep good etiquette ！
Refrain from nakedness and barefoot, please.
Eating or drinking is not allowed in the hall, except for preventing dehydration,heat stroke.
Those who are drunk or
make a loud voice

How to teach
You can enjoy learning a handicapped guidance games with the instructor autherized by Japan Shogi Association, the chief instructor of shogi club at Tsuruma elementary school.

We would happy to help your leaning not only beginners who want to know how to move Shogi pieces, but anyone who wants to play for fun.
Demonmode
For players who want to improve rapidly and learn the correct manners.
Normal mode
For players who have no particular requests.
We're looking for volunteers to help our class!

Let's get a membership of Japan Shogi Association (JSA) and make more shogi friends!

・A member is eligible to join practice games with our menmbers and various away games.

to get a licence of
"Kyu" and "Dan" rank system of Shogi
as bellow.
Kyu (junior rank) from 15kyu level to 1kyu (first Kyu level)
and
Dan-i (senior rank) of Shodan (1 dan level), Nidan (２dan),
Sandan (3dan),～
First, from 15kyu,

Access
The venue for our class, Nagoya Civic Assembly Hall is
located at northwestern corner of Tsuruma Park
in Nagoya.
It takes about 2 minutes on foot, from Tsurumai JR station and subway Tsurumai line exit No.4.

He/[She] never knowingly operates in such a way as to lessen the pleasure of others.
The guidelines as follows
No "Matta"
（No "hold it” , No "do-overs")
Let's not have any halts or waits.
Once after you moved a piece and took your finger off , you should never say
" Hold it ! " . ”Matta” is a typical bad manners not only chess but Shogi .
Three Greetings
Let's always get started "Shogi" with the greetings as bellow,
1. "Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu"
("Nice to meet you" )
Shogi players should greet each other before play a game.
2. "Makemashita"
(”I lost ")
When you lose, you should say "Makemashita" to end a game.
3. " Arigatou Gozaimashita"
(" Thank you")
After playing a game, you should say ,
" Arigatou Gozaimashita" .
BALANCED...
Shogi (Chess) is a hobby, never interfering with duties owed to family, job, school or community.
FRIENDLY...
He/[She] operates slowly and patiently when requested; offers friendly advice and counsel to beginners; kind assistance, cooperation and consideration for the interests of others. These are the marks of the amateur spirit.
PROGRESSIVE...
He/[She] keeps his/[her] station up to date. It is well-built and efficient. His/[Her] operating practice is above reproach.
LOYAL...
He/[She] offers loyalty, encouragement and support to other amateurs, local clubs, the Shogi Society in his/[her] country, through which Amateur Shogi in his/[her] country is represented nationally and internationally.
PATRIOTIC...
His/[Her] station and skills are always ready for service to country and community.
